Fog light lights up with headlight - How To Install? (02-04 Acura RSX)


In order to do an install you must understand this about electricity: In order for the light to work, there has to be a complete circuit. That means a wire connected to the positive terminal of the battery must be connected to one side of the light and a wire from the light must be connected to the negative terminal of the same battery. So that means that if you touch the positive terminal of the battery with one hand and touch the negative terminal with the other, the current will take the shortest path through your body and cause you to be electrocuted. The negative terminal of the battery has a metal cable attached to it, the other side of the cable is connected to the frame of the car causing any metal on the car to be considered ground. Therefore, touching the positive terminal of battery and any metal object on the car can complete the circuit which will cause electrocution. ***For safety, Remove the cables from the battery terminals before installation.

Time To Start: The fog light should come with 2 fog lights. There will be an input part on the light, plug the part of the wire that goes into it. It doesn't matter which side of the wire you plug into it.  Attached to the plugged in cable should be 3 wires. One of them should be black, this is the ground wire. The other 2 colors should be spliced together and insulate any exposed copper wire, then tape with electrical tape. I'll call the spliced wire the positive wire.

Test For Function: Attach the positive wire to the positive terminal of battery, and the black wire to the negative terminal of the battery. Does it light up? If so, we can move on.

Open the the hood of the car. Under the hood should be a fuse box. Take the cover off and look under the cover to find the diagram that shows where the headlights are. Attach copper of spliced wire to metal of headlight relay (left or right light) and insert the relay into its slot. Now attach the black wire to any metal frame of the car (most preferably under an existing bolt). Turn on the headlight to test the foglight. If you have any questions during install, comment below.
